The Negotiator

Naiah is 18 months old. Just before bedtime, she tapped me on the arm.

Naiah: Cookie, please.

Me: No, baby. No cookies right now.

Naiah: Cracker, please.

Me: No, Naiah. You're going to bed in a minute.

Naiah: Milk, please?

Me: Oh, okay.

I'm tellin' ya--that girl is gonna keep you on your toes. How old is she????? She already knows the fine art of starting with the impossible request and moving along to what she probably wanted all along and is now sure to get, because who can refuse a child a cup of milk? I mean--come on. . .

Bless you.
