PG-13

We're helping plant a church in a rural mountain town. Most of the kids who show up on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings arrive clueless about who God is, or what we're about. They just appreciate feeling welcome and safe.

Recently some of the young teenage girls started to get a clue about how much God has done for them, and now they can't stay away.

This evening, on a Monday, Pastor Jason found one of these girls sitting outside the sanctuary on her bike.

"Oh, good," she said. "I knew somebody would be coming soon. Is there church tonight?"

"No," he said.

"Damn! I missed it."

Nice! Out of the mouths of babes. We had a discussion in bible class on Sunday about curse words... who made them bad? If no one considered them to be bad it wouldn't matter when they were used... food for thought!

Bless her heart. . .I don't know Jason, but I am sure that his reply to her was filled with patience and the love of Christ. :)

Oh, nobody at our church is flustered by profanity, especially from non- or new believers. He was just happy that she was so stoked about church.

This is Pastor Jason. I'm probably one of the saltiest pastors people are likely to meet. Really, the only reason I keep using the title is to differentiate myself from Becky's husband. No, the profanity didn't phase me one bit. I was so stoked that she wanted to be there. To continue that conversation:
"Is there church tomorrow night?"

"Nope"

"The next night?"

"Sorry, nope. The next event we have is Hot Topic on Saturday night."

"Cool!" she said and rode off.

I'm sure it will be a "hot topic" indeed. :) So glad the light of Christ shines so brightly that she yearns to be where christians are gathered. Way cool.

Ha ha- that is awesome. It reminds me of a time when my public high school soccer team was actually praying before a game and one of our team-mates asked God to help us kick the other team's a$$. Even though a lot of us were like, "Uh Hello? Do you realize you just said a$$ while praying to God?" I was a little struck that she felt open enough in her relationship with God to use that word. While I'm not one to curse, I really think that God looks on the heart and judges accordingly. We could say something that wasn't a "curse" word, and mean it just as harshly.
